worked for York lumber Company in Grinnell. He was in a fire in 1954. He was repairing a gas leak in a open trench when a passing car threw a cigarette out the window. It is thought the lighted cigarette caused the fire trapping Lloyd and one of his employees. They were each burned recovery was slow and was several months before he could return to work. He retired from working at Iowa Southern Utilities Company, in 1962 due to a back disability . He was operated on for ruptured discs in his back and lived with this disability for the rest of h is life.
