He stayed there for two years then went to work for the Spaulding Mfg. Company as Chief engineer. After two years here signed due to poor health and moved to Grinnel, Iowa. In Grinell he wor ked for the Spaulding Mfg. as a pattern maker .It has been said he bu ilt a plane for pioneer aviator, Billy Robinson around 1912 .

Josiah moved with his parents to Sauk County, Wisconsin, in 1879, where he married Annie Jones .
They moved from Sauk County, Wisconsin to Door County, Wisconsin in 1884 where he took up pastoral work among Friends at Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. They moved from there in the fall of 1887 back to Sauk county .
He left his family in Wisconsin and went alone to Whitter, Orange, El modena and Pasadena, California where he did some religous work. While in California, he contacted Small Pox and recovered, returned to Wisconsinin, September 1888.
Soon after he returned to Sturgeon Bay in November 1888, taking up pastoral work and remained there until March 1890. He moved his family to Moses, Colorado.
After about 20 months, they moved to Perkins County, Nebraska . He wor ked from November 1892, in Spencer and Greenfield, conducting monthl y meetings of Friends near Grant the county seat, where he was recor d as a minister by the Spencer group.
He moved from there to Lupton, Michigan in 1900 where he took up missi on work for Friends among the lumbermen of that county, organizing mee ting and doing evangelistic work in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio.
He moved to Perkins County, South Dakota, March 24, 1910 settling o n
a home stead. He signed an affidavit /Civil War pension for his mothe r.

National Archives records indicate at the first call for troops in 1898, he enlisted at Camp Harvy, Wisconsin and was put in Co. H 2nd Wisconsin Volunteers on April 28 1898. He was mustered into service on Ma y 12 1898. He is described as 5 ft. 9.5 inches tall, blue eyes, blac k hair. Pay listed as $33.80. His company left Milwaukee the 15th fo r the south. He contacted Typhoid Fever and was sent to the hospital at Murfreesboro, Ga. July 4, 1898. He transferred to a general hospital at Ft. Thomas, Ky. on July 8th and remained there until August 16, 1898. On Sept 14, he was granted sick leave. He returned to Grant County, Indiana and remained there until October 14, when he returned to his command and was mustered out of the service on Nov 16, 1898. Spanish War Reg. No. 3876, 3852 and 3992, Name also appears as Albert Hosket .
After he returned home he worked on a lake steamer, for the city of Racine for two years as an oile . He worked fro the Spaulding Mfg. Co.i n Grinnell, Iowa as a wood worker and carver from 1904 until 1906. He worked as a carpenter until 1910 Grinnell, Iowa.
