Wife's General Notes
A sweet little woman was help to any one who asked, Imogene May told me she was the one people asked for if sick, and that Mary Alice set her arm when she was a child, said she wrapped it in cloth and put a strip of what was known as rolled roofing, this was a heavy sheet of tar paper used to put on roof's as well as siding for the houses, as a splint. She made a large garden and now I know, she must have shared a lot of this, as she and her son Harley, could not have eat all that she grew. As she grew older she began to have small strokes, in time, a large stroke caused her death. I spent a lot of time with her and never heard her raise her voice to man or beast.

Harley never married. He was a long time resident of Stone County, a farmer and a care giver to his mother as long as she lived. Services and burial were held in Clio Church Preceded in death by his par ents and one sister. Survived by all remaining members.
Harley was a good friend to all who knew him, He raised a large toma to field, milked cows, raised corn and cane for his own use. One of his nephews Claude Milligan told me (Genna Burguss), that his mother and father came to Missouri from Oklahoma to visit them and Harley took him along when he took a load of tomatoes to the canning factory, on the way Harley bought him a candy stick, he said he knew it wasn't the biggest piece of candy in the world, but to him it looked like it. Harley spent a lot of evenings playing a game called fox and geese with me, while grandma would sit in her little sewing rocker, with her patching in her lap.
General Notes for Child Andrew Guston COOK
Survivors of Andrew Guston Cook of Jenkins Rt, is Nathanael Reed Cook of Jenkins Rt.; Mrs. Genna Faye Burgess; Mrs Jane Reavis both of Marionville Missouri. One sister Mrs Ruth Cunningham of Galena Rt. His wife Nellie E. McCullough Cook preceded him in death. He died at the Aurora Nursing Home after a long illness. He was a life long resident of Barry and Stone County, farming, operating a saw mill, and later an employee of Southwest in Aurora. Services were in The Whellerville Church with burial in Mars Hill Cemetery. He had a good sense of humor, loved a good prank. He took early retirement from crippling arthritis. Died from a long battle with cancer.
The following is as told by Genna Faye Burgess
Dad had several stays in the hospital, and would not sleep at night unless some one was with him. Linda Mae ( Woody) Cook, my brothers wife, and I would take turns staying with him. She would work all day, stay with Dad that night and work all day the next day, then we traded of bf and I would do the same. One night we did not stay with him as he was doing well. He called Mom several times during the night, after awhile le she called Nathanael. He and Linda got up and went to Springfield to see what was wrong, when they got there he was sound asleep and snoring.
Mom had always made the garden except for the plowing after Dad retired he wanted to get involved. Mom did not want him in her garden as he fertilized, and she did not want any of that in her garden. So each was to grow their own and we would just see who could grow the best garden. each had their own rows. Dad fertilized and unknown to Mom , he put the same on hers and hoed it under. Then came harvest and canning, each counting the product of their labor. Mom blew up the pressure cooker with Dads beans in it. He counted then anyway as it was not his fault, she blew up the cooker. The count was the same.

She was a wonderful cook, I can remember the sight and smell of her baked rolls,as they came out of the oven, never did any one else make that kind ofbread. he had hooks in the ceiling of the living roo m and she made, and hand quilted, some beautiful quilts, some times a g roup of ladies would come and they would let the quilt down to seating level and enjoy a day of quilting, when finished, they would raise th e frames back to the ceiling, out of the way until another day.
