Husband's General Notes
A farmer and stockman, in the Barry County, Missouri area. I have since a small child thought this was the most wonderful man who ever lived . He lived on Carney Branch below Wheelerville and south, My family lived on what was called, The Williams Ranch, at the time . My brother Na thaniel Cook and I, Genna Faye Cook- Hartin- Burgess, ages six and nin e ,at this time went to school at Mountain Home (also called Possum T rot). The Carney Branch road was under construction at this time, an d our bus driver could get up the road coming from the south, only to Glens house. Due to road work and a hard rain, he could not take the bus through a strip of road, beyond that. After many tries, he let u s out, as we was the only children left on the bus to be dropped off . It was raining and getting dark as darkness came early if you lived in a hollow between two hills with a heavy growth of trees, and under growth. We were had a very long walk from home, and scared to death, as we had heard the screams of the Panthers who dwelled in the wood ed areas many times. We kept walking and telling one another, " It wil l be alright, we will be home soon" when we heard the clip, clop of a horses hoof's, it was Glen, he had seen the driver put us out, and had saddled his horse, and come to take us home. He put me in front and Nathaniel on behind. This man has had our undying love ever since.

Husband's General Notes
As told by their daughter Thelma Asher Kaup:
Dad and Mom worked very hard in the early years, I believe mom's parents gave them a cow, quilts and bedding and a bed with a straw tick. Dad had a quilt and a Linsday blanket that his mother had spun and woven on her loam for them .
Dad had Fred Thomas and Pat Baker to build a rock (cobblestone) building for him which housed the Dry Hollow Grocery Store. They purchased eggs for 8 cents a dozen, chickens for five cents a pound and ten cents for rabbits. When John was about five years old, Dad purchase d a store in Cape Fair, while my Uncle Perry run the store in Dry Ho low. After a time, Dad sold the Cape Fair store and moved back to and run the Dry Hollow Store.
As we drove through Crane going to see my grandparents, Dad would admire the Bradfield store and say he would like to run it. In Nov of 1936 he purchased the store. I worked as clerk and part time buyer. After a number of years Dad sold the store and they moved back to Dry Hollow and went into semi retirement, raising livestock and general farming.
