General Notes for Child Amos William HILTON

Amos did make moonshine on his mothers stove he used wheat or corn which ever he could get, sold some and kept more for him. He got his nick name razor for using a straight razor to cut off a man's ear in a bar fight. He did a lot of hunting and trapping and fishing sold what he could and fed the family wth the rest. He did ranch farming and some building for other people he just didn't talk much about his life.

One of the stories Amos did tell was how he took a case of mason jar s full of moonshine to a local store owner to sell him. The store owner sampled the moonshine. Told Amos that it wasn't worth the $1.00 a jar he was selling it for and that he would pay only $.50 a jar. Amos sa id no to the deal and took his case of jars outside and around the cor ner where he stashed in among some crates stacked on the side of the s tore. Then a couple of days later came back to the stashed moonshine . Retrieved it, replaced the empty jar with a full one then took it ba ck into the store. Where he let the store owner try the moonshine agai n. This time the owner said it was some of the best that Amos ever made. Amos worked a deal that the store owner paid $1.50 per jar.

A story that Chloe told about Amos was about him and food for the coon dogs. One day she was boiling up some meat to feed to the coon dogs . She wasn't in the house when Amos came in from working outside at lu nch. Amos seen the pot boiling on the stove and was hungry so he dishe d him up a bowl or two and had some lunch. When Chloe came in the house she asked him what he was eating cause she had come into fix his lunch. Amos said the stew cooking on the stove Chloe said what stew thats the skunk meat you brought in for the dogs.
